Empire Eternal Dev-Log #3: Building Construction in Empire Eternal

Feb 17, 2025

Hello, everyone! Today, we’re going to talk about building construction, one of the most important mechanics for the growth of your empire. From small villages to large fortified cities, your buildings are the foundation for resource production, troop training, and territory defense. Let’s understand how it all works!

The Role of Buildings in the Game

In Empire Eternal, each building has a specific function, and building strategically can make the difference between victory and defeat. Here are some of the main functions:

  • Resource Storage: Place buildings near mines and farms to ensure the efficient collection of food, wood, stone, and other materials. Don’t forget to protect them.
  • Unit Training: Barracks, stables, and ports are where you train your troops, build powerful ships, and weapons.
  • Research and Technological Advances: Universities and research centers offer important upgrades for your units and structures.
  • Defense: Towers and walls complement your defense. Use a combination of walls and fences to ensure protection. (Check out our previous Dev-Log #2 about walls.)

How Does Building Construction Work?

Choosing the Location

  • Proximity to Resources: Place storage buildings near resource areas to optimize collection. What do you think about having special buildings to improve resource gathering?
  • Territory Organization: Military buildings near walls help facilitate defense.
  • Room for Expansion: Reserve areas for future important constructions. Attention: sandy terrain weakens buildings, and some structures cannot be built in these areas.

Planning and CostEach building consumes resources and time to construct. Manage your workers and materials well to avoid delaying the empire’s growth.

Building UpgradesOver time, you can upgrade existing buildings to make them more efficient. For example:

  • Upgraded farms produce more food using different types of crops.
  • Advanced barracks allow the training of stronger troops. Don’t forget to advance in ages to unlock these upgrades.

Building Destruction or Dismantling

  • Buildings can only be destroyed by enemies. If you want to remove them, you can dismantle them and recover part of the resources. What do you think about needing to clear the rubble before building on the same spot?
  • Burning buildings will eventually collapse if not quickly repaired.

Essential Buildings to Start

  • Town Center: The heart of your empire. Here you recruit citizens and lay the foundation for your civilization’s growth. It also serves as automatic defense—remind you of any other game?
  • Houses: Increase the population cap, allowing you to train more units and boost troop morale. Protect them well, as they are the base of your population.
  • Barracks: Where you train basic combat units like swordsmen, spearmen, and riflemen.
  • Airports: Build air units, such as fighter jets, bombers, and transport planes. Should airports have their own defense system?
  • Ports: Build combat ships, transport vessels, submarines, and even resource-gathering and construction ships.
  • Storage Buildings: Essential for storing resources collected by workers. Protect them well to maintain a constant war effort.
  • Towers and Defensive Structures: Place them near walls to protect strategic points. Remember: only walls and fences block passages.

Building Strategies

  • Rapid Expansion: Early on, quickly build houses and resource-gathering structures to ensure a steady resource flow and increase your population.
  • Integrated Defense: Military buildings near walls help defend your base during attacks.
  • Specialized Zones: Organize your territory by creating specific areas, such as agricultural and military zones. Don’t forget residential areas—we don’t want to hit the population cap and halt unit production.

Development Challenges

  • Efficient Pathfinding: Workers won’t get stuck in constructions and will find the correct path.
  • No More Improvised Barriers: Now, only walls and fences block passages, no longer houses or other buildings.
  • Terrain Adaptation: Buildings adapt to the type of terrain but cannot be built on steep slopes or unsuitable areas.

That’s it for now! We’d love to hear from you: which buildings do you think are essential for victory?

"Just as the right stones build an unbreakable fortress, well-planned buildings lay the foundation that upholds and empowers your empire!"
